Bicycling

"Where are the best bike paths in Cleveland?"

"Do the public parks allow mountain biking?"

"Can you connect me to a local club so I can ride my 20-milers on weekends with those who know the best roads to ride?"

"Where can I get a good bike tune-up this spring?"

There are great bicycle clubs in the region.   The Cleveland Touring Club is a perfect place to start if you ride on the east side.  Westsiders should check out the Lake Erie Wheelers.  If you want a cool urban ride, start in Cleveland Metroparks' E. 55th Street Marina then follow Marginal Road to the Harrison-Dillard Bikeway along Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

Recommended cycling clubs for riding with others, exploring new routes:

Bike Cleveland is a MUST for all bikers! It has the best connections to all bicycling resources and keeps their information current. i.e., the best bike shops and resources. They are an advocacy/non-profit with just a handful of staff members and an active board and are augmented by an advisory board of passionate bikers and over 1,000 dues-paying members including local businesses. Although their primary focus is on the City of Cleveland a lot of their work juts out into the suburbs with chapters and local advocates in Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, the Chagrin Valley, Parma, Euclid and Brecksville.

Ohio City Bicycle Co-Op - Take donated bicycles, volunteers fix them up and donate them to kids who don't have bikes. Cool, right?

Bike Boxes - these decommissioned shipping containers have been repurposed into bike storage boxes and are scattered throughout downtown Cleveland, University Circle and the near west side.

Go HOPR-Shared bicycles available throughout the city, similar to e-scooter brands like Bird and Lime.

Cyclocross bike - A great bike for someone about to invest in new wheels as they move to Cleveland because of its thicker tires which allow it to be used almost 12 months a year over all sorts of terrain and weather.

Biking with kids - Biking is such a healthy habit to develop early in kids. Encouraging them to walk or bike to school is good for them and the environment. They get exercise and the carbon footprint is lowered. Currently, only 0.6% of children bike to school in Cleveland.

Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail has a one-mile mountain bike loop beginning at E. 49th Street off of I-77
